Gand – Wevelgem (or Gent – Wevelgem) is one of the Belgian classics that are part of the UCI World Tour. A very important competition for the Maurizio that Fondriest celebrates in 2024 with the launch of Gand road model.

Born in 1934 as an amateur race, it has been opened to professionals since 1945.

Created by George Matthys, from 1990 to 2021 it has been organized by the Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad, which has been also responsible for the organization of the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, while in 2022 the baton was passed to Flanders Classics (the same company as the Tour of Flanders) .

The route starts from East Flanders, precisely from Deinze, and arrives in West Flanders at Wevelgem, with a border crossing into France of approximately 50 km.

In detail, we start from Ghent, passing through Bruges and crossing the expanses that lead to the Ostend Sea. Then we return inland and before reaching Wevelgem, there is Mont Kemmel, which with its 18% slope represents the only danger for the Belgian sprinters who have always dominated this race.

Maurizio Fondriest competed in Ghent in 1995 and took the second place in a two-man sprint. A race that taught him that the important thing in sport and in life is to never give up.

Such an important event for the Trentino cyclist that the brand has decided to celebrate it in 2024 with the release of Gand road bike model.

The official presentation of Gand road bike model took place last July 3rd during Eurobike 2024 in Frankfurt. A bike with a modern aerodynamic design with geometry optimized for fast cyclists, available in two colors Team glossy and Petrol blue matt/glossy, four setups and five sizes.

It is characterized by:

– Space for 32 mm covers;
